Help!

I am fairly new at knitting–knitting only about 5 months. Now, my problem is this–I cannot understand how to use the short row technique. The pattern states: Cast on 21 stitches. k1,p1 to the last stitch, slip the last stitch, turn. K1,P1, for 20 stitches, wrap the next stitch. Turn. K1,P1 for 19 stitches, wrap next stitch, turn. Why can’t you just knit 2 together? What’s the purpose of a “wrap”? I’ve looked at Amy’s short row technique and I just cannot get it . Can anyone help me??

Thanks,

The wrap is to prevent a hole.

When you do short row shaping, it’s not to make a decrease, as k 2 together would do, it’s to allow you to knit more in the middle of your piece than at the ends.

When it says to wrap the next stitch, you sl as if to purl, wrap the yarn behind it, then slip it back and turn your work. Your yarn will be on the side you will now be working.

Thanks–I’ll try this again and let you know if I get it-----might be tomorrow.
