Help!

Hi…this is the dilemma…I’m working with DPN…3 and one working needle. I have already ripped out the entire hat and started from scratch…so I don’t want to do that again…this is a baby hat with an upside down flower petal. I’m working on the stem and cord that comes out of the stem.

Now, 2 needles had 3 stitches on each and 1 needle had 2. That is a total of 8 sts, which is what I was suppose to have according to the pattern. Now, the next instructions were to K2tog 4 times-which would leave 4 sts…well, ok, but if you only have 3 sts on one needle, how does that work out?? And how can I do that if I have only 3 needles?? So, I did the what I thought I should do, but ended up with 5 sts…2 on 2 needles each and one stitch on one needle. What was I suppose to do?? :shrug:Now the next set of instructions have me baffled, too…It is working the “I-Cord”. “Slide 4 sts to opposite end of dpn, bringing yarn from behind needle tightly. k4;rep from *until cord measures 2”. :??
Help!! Thanks, Linda

You can move one stitch over to another needle. At this point, it may not matter how the stitches are divided.

Are you sure you’re supposed to be using 4 DPNs at this point anyway? If you’re doing I-cord, the most logical would be to have your 8 stitches on one needle and work the k2tog with a 2nd needle, like if you’re on regular straight needles. Then after your decreases, you’re all set to do the I-cord with the 2 DPN needles.

Regarding the i-cord, there’s a video on this site demonstrating it, found here (it’s nearly at the bottom of the page so you’ll need to scroll down a ways). I-cord is not nearly as complicated or intimidating as it sounds.

Hi, Thanks everybody for your replies. I think I have it now. That video was especially helpful!! :muah:
