Hi, im confused about my pattern and need someone to explain a
little part of it…PLEASE, it says:
Left Front:
cast on 3 stitches
begin with a k row, work in st st as follows
work 1 row (is this the row I start with? or was I suppose to start
above with begin with a k row?)
cast on 5 sts at beg of next row, then 3 sts at beg of foll 3 alt
rows,(does alt 3 row mean I work two more rows and then cast on at
the 3 row and then work two more rows and cast on again at the 3 row?)
inc 1 st at end (front opening edge) of next row and at same edge on
foll 9 rows (do i increase 1 in the next 9 rows?)
then on foll 9 alt rows (what do they mean when they say alternate
rows?, do I increase for 8 rows and then increase on the 9th?)
cast on 5 sts at beg of next row, then 3 sts at beg of foll 3 alt
rows,(does alt 3 row mean I work two more rows and then cast on at
the 3 row and then work two more rows and cast on again at the 3 row?)
This means that you will cast on 3st every other row so, for example, on rows 5, 7 and 9 you will cast on 3st.
inc 1 st at end (front opening edge) of next row and at same edge on foll 9 rows (do i increase 1 in the next 9 rows?)
Yes, each increase will be at the front opening edge for 10 consecutive rows.
then on foll 9 alt rows (what do they mean when they say alternate
rows?, do I increase for 8 rows and then increase on the 9th?)
This means every other row so you will make an increase on every knit or purl row depending on which row you’re on at that point in the pattern.
work 1 row (is this the row I start with? or was I suppose to start
above with begin with a k row?) [/b]
You actually start knitting where it says ‘work 1 row’. The preceding part is telling you to start with a knit row because in stockinette stitch (st st) you can start with either a purl row or a knit row. The pattern is specifying that in this case you will be starting with a knit row.
