Hello hope someone can help. I’ve knitted 69 stitches then cast off 4 and purled the rest of the row, however, now I’m getting confused do I decrease 4 stitches 6 times so will have knitted 12 rows in total or do I decrease by 4 12 times so will have knitted 24 rows?
I’m confused as from this I feel I would have too many stitches as having done the above over the next 8 I would decrease by 4 then 2 for the 3 alternate rows but this would leave me with a lot of stitches?
As far as I can make out, when you have 69 stitches you turn your work as though you’ve come to the end of the row, put the remaining stitches on a holder and work on the 69 stitches.
Next row, cast off 2 at the beginning of the row.
Next 12 even numbered rows, cast off 4 at the beginning of each row.
Ignore the next 2 bits of the instruction as it appears to say to decrease no stitches at the beginning of the following no alternate rows.
At the same time as you’re doing all the above:
Next 8 rows, decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge of each row
Next 3 even numbered rows, decrease 1 stitch at neck edge of each row
4th and 8th rows after that, decrease 1 stitch at neck edge of each row.
That should leave you with 4 stitches, which you cast off after working one row, as per instructions.
Hope that helps - apologies of it leaves you more confused than ever!
I agree pretty much with NorthernIrelandKnitter except for the cast off of 2 sts at the beginning of the row.
If you cast off 4sts at the beg of the second row (the shoulder edge) and at the same edge every other row 12 times that’s 4x13sts or 52sts.
At the same time cast off one stitch at the neck edge every row for 8 rows (8sts so far) then every other row 3 times and every 4th row twice that’s another 5sts (13sts total). 13+52=65sts leaving 4sts for the final cast off.
So dec at the armhole on rows 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,26.
Dec at the neck edge on rows 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and then on rows 11,13,15 and finally rows 19 and 23.
