I’m trying a new pattern, which a kind lady at the yarn shop shared with me, but it seems a little sparse! I’m knitting a tabard (like a vest but with split sides, no arm holes), and have knitted the back no problem, but i’m now at the neck line and the pattern states;
“Then knit (16) sts cast off the middle sts till (19) sts remain knit them in pattern as before Then knit till neck hole and cast on (19) sts knit till end of the row. Cont down other side till work is same as front.”
This confuses me because;
- There are 51 stitches. So I would have thought i would knit the 16, cast of 19, then still have 16 remaining (for the other side). But the pattern states to case of middle sts ‘till 19’ remain. If I do that, one side is 3 stitches more than the other. Is that right?
- I’m assuming what I actually have to do is knit the 16, cast off 19, then knit 16. Turn work round, knit 16, cast on 19, knit 16, then knit the front. does that sound right? is that enough for a neck hole?
(there’s a turtle neck later, where I pick up stitches, but I think I get that bit.
Thank you for all your help,
K
