Help with sock pattern

I am making these Tropicana Socks - http://magknits.com/June06/patterns/tropicana.htm

I am confused with the ‘srpo’. I am just starting the heel.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Slip 3 sts from needle 3 & 2 onto needle one, i. e. 3 sts on each side. You have now 28 sts on needle 1. Work short row heel as follows. :
The short row heel will be worked in stockinette stitch, back and forth. (If you are familiar with a different short row heel or prefer any other heel – work your preferred heel).
K the 28 sts on needle 1. Turn, make a srpo as described above. Put srpo onto spare needle. P 27. Turn, make a srpo as described above. Put srpo onto spare needle. K to the end of row, turn, make a srpo, put srpo onto spare needle, p to the end of row, turn, make a srpo, put srpo onto spare needle. Repeat until 9 sts are left on main needle, work one round over all sts b…[/b]

srpo - sl st to right hand needle with yarn in front, then pull yarn over the needle – st looks now as if there are two sts, you are not making a yarn over, you just pull it to the back! = srpo double stitch. This double stitch is always knit/purled together as one st. Do not make increases!

So, I just knit across my 28 heel stitches, and no it says to srpo and transfer to spare needle. I slip the stitch w/ yarn in front, and pass yarn over the right needle. But i end up with two stitches. That would mean I’d have far more than 55 stitches at the end. :??

Thanks,
Claire :frog: :star:

If I’m reading the pattern correctly, I think you’re supposed to pretend the two loops are one stitch. This sort of “wrapped” stitch is used to keep short rows from leaving holes in the finished item. That’s an unusual way to write the pattern, though.

yeah, thanks for the tip, I think I figured it out.
