Help with sleeve instructions for cable jersey

Good Day, I am completely new to this community and haven’t been a knitter very long. I would appreciate some assistance with the instructions for the sleeves of a cable jersey/sweater I am knitting.

It is 24 row cable pattern, I have 80 stitches and I am at row 7 where the first increase of 1 stitch at each end starts.

The 24 row pattern is:
1st Row.-P4: *k3, p2, k8, p2; rep from * to last 7sts, k3, purl to end.
2nd Row.-K4, 'p1, k1, p1, k2, p4, k6; rep from * to last 7 sts, p1, k1, p1, knit to end,
3rd Row.-P4. 'k3, p2, slip next 4 sts onto cablo needle and hold at back of work, k4, then k4 from cable needle), p2: rep from • to last 7 sts, k3, purl to end.
4th Row.-K4), 'p1, k1, p1, k6, p4, k2; rep from • to last 7, p1, k1, p1, knit to end,
5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th Rows. -As 1st Row.
6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th Rows.-As 4th Row.
15th Row.-As 3rd Row.
16th, 18th, 20th, 22nd and 24th Rows,-As 2nd Row.
17th, 19th, 21st and 23rd Rows.-As 1st Row.

The pattern states:
Keeping the 24 rows of pattern correct and bringing extra sts into reversed st-st, inc 1 st at each end of next and every following 6th row until there are 104 stitches.

If I need to increase one stitch at each end of row 7 and make use of rev st st, how will the instructions look if the row pattern for the increase row and the next row is: 1st Row.-P4: *k3, p2, k8, p2; rep from * to last 7 sts, k3, purl to end. 4th Row.-K4, 'p1, k1, p1, k6, p4, k2; rep from * to last 7, p1, k1, p1, knit to end

What confuses me is the rev st st, and the fact that with the first increase ( and some of the following increases) there are 4 full cable stitch repeats, but then a partial one before the last 4 stitches. Where does the rev st st fit in?

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

What is the name of your pattern and designer?

For row 7 which is a repeat of pattern row 1:
1st Row.-P4: *k3, p2, k8, p2; rep from * to last 7sts, k3, purl to end.
the increase would be at the ends of the row in the purl sts (bolded). You could place the increases one stitch in from the ends for a neater edge and easier seaming if you’d like. The purl side of stockinette on the RS makes this reverse stockinette at each end. The cables won’t be involved.

So row 8 (pattern row 4) would then have the increased sts at each end (bolded)
K5, 'p1, k1, p1, k6, p4, k2; rep from • to last 7, p1, k1, p1, knit to end,

You would begin the increases on rows 7,13,19, 25 (row 25 would be back to pattern row 1) then rows 7,13,19,25 again and so on as necessary to get to 104sts. All of these rows are repeats of row 1 so that’s the only row you need for placement of increases. Each time you increase the number of sts at the ends of rows will increase by one stitch each end.

Thank you for the explanation, but does that mean that with every increase there will be eg. 6 (then 7 etc.) to knit / purl for the selfedge? And as for the cable stitch pattern in between I just keep repeating the stitch sequence until I have a full sequence again?

The pattern is Mens Boys Family Crew Neck Cable Sweater from ThistleandTwigCrafts

“Keeping the 24 rows of pattern correct and bringing extra sts into reversed st-st, inc 1 st at each end of next and every following 6th row until there are 104 stitches.”
The pattern is only telling you to work the increases in reverse stockinette until 104sts. These sts are then part of the pattern with the edge sts at each end the selvedge.
It doesn’t say to incorporate the sts into the cable pattern. You can of course do that but the cable pattern will pull in and narrow the sleeve to some extent.

Is it this one?

If you zoom in on the pic, esp the child’s sleeve, you can see a widening reverse stockinette on the inside of the sleeve.

Thank you so much for all your help. I’ve now made a diagram on Excel and it makes more sense now. Except that ther 9 stitches after the last cable (15 st) stitch group, which I assume I work as the first 9 stitches of the 15 st repeat. Somehow seeing it in different colors everything start to make sense.

You could write the cable row as:
P4 (k3, p2, cable, p2) (k3, p2, cable, p2) k3, p4
with only two of the 15stitch repeats showing.
So the row would look like:
P4, k3, [p2, cable, p2], k3, [p2, cable, p2], k3, p4
which is close to what the photos show. (Although the photos show slight differences. For example, a mixed cable of intertwined k4 and p4sts.) The increases happen in the purl sts at beginning and end of row.
Not sure how that works with 80sts.
