I am having a problem with the binding off of this pattern for the neck. The first 16 stitches I was able to bind off the 3 stitches, but the second 16 stitches, I am having a problem with.
Here is the pattern
FRONT
Work same as back until piece measures 5(5 1/2-6)” from beg, end on WS.
Divide for Front Slit: Next Row (RS): K15(16-18), join another ball of yarn and k15(16-18). Working both sides at once, work even until armholes measure 3(3½-4)”, end on WS.
Shape Neck: Bind off 3(3-4) sts at each edge of front slit once, then dec 1 st at each neck edge EVERY row 3 times – 9(10-11) sts each side. Work even until armhole measures 4 1/2(5-5 1/2)”, end on WS. Bind off.
If anyone knows how to help me with this I would appreciate it. Again, my problem is with the binding off of the 3 stitches on both sides of the split.
Thanks for the help!!!
You can’t bind off at the end of the row, so bind off the necessary stitches when you’re starting the row at the neck edge. On the right front you’ll bind off on the right side, on the left front you’ll bind off on the wrong side.
So, I will bind off on the knit side for the right front and I will bind off on the purl side for the left front?? Does that make sense?? I really appreciate your reply to my question.
Thanks again. I was so worried that I was going to be binding off on two different rows and that would be wrong. I just found this website, and it’s people like you that make it so great!!!
Binding off often occurs on different rows–it’s a necessity. It never causes a problem, though.
Welcome to the forum! It’s a great place with lots of friendly people.
Yes, you have to bind off on different rows as you can’t BO at the end of one and still continue to knit (well, not easily) the slight difference isn’t noticeable at all.
