Help with set up for Fisherman's Rib Sweater

Hello, I am working from a pattern called His and her fisherman’s rib sweater. I am so confused.

The pattern calls for an odd number of stitches for the set up of the rib pattern.
These are the instruction after the ribbing has been completed. There are 85 sts.

1st row - (right side), P1, P1, K1blw; rep from * to last 2 sts, P2.

I have tried to P1, K1blw and end up with 3 stitches at the end not 2. Therefore, I tried to P1 (twice) and it works out, and I have 2 stitches to purl at the end. But now the beginning has 2 stitches before the K1blw.

There are only 2 rows for the pattern. The 2nd row reads as follows.

2nd row - P1, *k1blw, P1; rep from * to end.

These 2 rows form pattern.
Continue in patt until back measures 24 1/2.

There are 2 purls before the k1blw.
This means your second run of the set up is correct.
When you turn you will p1 then k1blw
The p1 at each end is a selvedge, for seaming later, the actual stitch pattern is p1, k1blw on the right side and k1blw, p1 on the wrong side.

The k1blw is worked into the column that was purled on the other side, so you can peep over your needle to the other side and check where it’s going in if it helps.
On the second side then the first stitch p1 is the selvedge, the second stitch is k1blw.

Set up rows are often harder than the rest of the pattern, if you follow exactly stitch by stitch as written it will work out.

Let us know how you get on.
