Hello everybody,
I would like to knit this lovely hat for my husband … I have a few questions for you:
- I need to add stitches to the pattern, 78 sts instead of 63 CO.
- Do I knit the short rows according to the pattern or do I have to adjust the number of knitted stitches before W&T.
- Also, it the pattern says to knit in garter stitch (and not seed stitch) for the short rows. I will only use seed stitch at row 12?
Thank you very much for your precious recommendations!

Welcome to KH!
Yes, it seems that many of the knitters who have posted their projects have changed the placement of the short rows. That seems like a good idea to keep the brim proportional.
Short rows 12 and 13 are in seed and then the hat continues in seed stitch.
Thank you very much for your reply. I have never modified a pattern before. How would I go about changing the placement of the short rows if I start with 78 stitches instead of 63. Would you please help me?
Probably moving each of the short rows over by maybe 2-3 sts will be enough. You’ll have to give this a try and see what works with your gauge.
This project seemed to require major changes to the stitch count and short rows but you’re not changing the number by so much.
