Hi ![]()
I’m Rita and new to this forum (or any forum for that matter). I’ve joined as I need help with a project I’m doing. It looks pretty simple and I’m an experienced knitter but I’m clearly doing something wrong as the sides of this project are sloping as though I’m increasing on one side and decreasing on the other. The pattern is now saying continue without shaping but the pattern didn’t indicate that I was shaping. Typically the back on a sweater has straight sides so I’m confused. Any help would be appreciated.
I’m trying to add photos but am getting an error message so clearly not doing this part right either ![]()
Any help with how to upload photos would be appreciated also
Welcome to the forum!
What is the name of your pattern and designer? We can’t post large portions of patterns on the forum but you can give us a couple of rows if you think that will help.
The difficulty uploading photos may have been because it was your first post. Try clicking the landscape icon at the top of the Reply box and see if the photos upload now.
Gosh this hard… thank you for your hints. My photo files are too large to attach so not sure where to from here ![]()
Please try resizing the files.

Let us know the name of the pattern and designer too.
Hello
Hopfully you can resize your pics so we can help more easily.
If not though, you can type a couple of rows of the pattern which come just before the “now continue without shaping” and we can give you an extra pair of eyes on the instructions. I see you’re an experienced knitter, but we all miss things, or misinterpret things, from time to time.
If you have the name and number of the pattern, or a link to where you bought it this would be a great help.
When uploading pics. I had one it said was too big, I retook the photo (just the same picture again) and it worked, not too big. Also it does take a while to upload so make sure you wait until it has finished.
You chose the right forum, this is a friendly and helpful place. I don’t join lots of places either, this is the only place i post to it’s so helpful and well managed.
That’s so helpful thank you.
Row 1 K1,*K1,P1, rep from * to last st, K1
Row 2 K1,*P1,K1, rep from * to last st, K1
Row 3 K1, *P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1
Row 4 K1, *K1,P1, rep from * to last st, K1
Last 4 rows set moss st pattern
Keeping continuity of patt as set (throughout) cont until work measures 9cm ending with ws row.
THE NEXT BIT IS WHERE I’M CONFUSED - it says…
Work 26 rows ‘WITHOUT SHAPING’
Then it goes onto shaping armholes.
This is the back of a cardigan. The sides are sloping left to right as though I’m decreasing at one end and increasing at the other but nothing in the pattern indicates that I am shaping.
The pattern was purchase from Etsy and literally called Cardigan
I’m working on how to upload pics so as soon as I do I will.
So far that doesn’t sound like there’s any shaping. Maybe it’s just a reminder because you’re about to start shaping? Have you counted your stitches just to check that you still have the same number you started with?
Does the pattern look correct for moss stitch? You should also be able to a diagonal as the purl bumps shift over across the rows.
Seeing a photo of your knitting may help us figure out what’s up. Let us know where the upload isn’t completing if you can.
You can also go to the pattern on etsy and copy the url (the Web address) by clicking in the address bar and selecting copy. Then navigate back to this page and select paste and it will link to the pattern.
We will at least be able to see the pattern pic on etsy. This doesn’t break copyright to share a link to a pattern seller.
Maybe the diagonal pattern is combining with the ply type of the yarn making it look slanted when it’s not really?
Yay ![]()
Thank you
Thanks for the link. Sounds like one of those overly careful instructions. No shaping on the back until perhaps the armholes.
I’m not sure why the pattern biasing but that may be something that you can correct when you block the piece. You might pin it out straightening the slant, wet it, let the back dry thoroughly and see if that helps. Make sure that that checks with the ballband instructions.
Very sweet pattern!
Super cute pattern
I suspect the etsy seller is in breach of copyright selling copies, it’s still available for purchase new from many places.
I like the crossover design the buttons could be moved to allow for a growing baby if needed.
What yarn are you using. Seems unlikely but perhaps the yarn is the reason for the biasing.
Well I have to say thank you to everyone who helped me with my query - for some reason I was unable to upload a photo of my project but I continued to the arm hole shaping and decided to cut my losses and terminate the project.
I think I’ll start something else.
Now that I have discovered this wonderful space I will continue to tune.
Thanks again x
I’m so sorry that you had to quit this one but sometimes it’s best to maintain sanity. Maybe put this one in timeout and think about it again at a later date? Sometimes fresh eyes on a project help.
GG’s thought about the yarn itself is a good one. Well, hope the next project is more fun to work.
Sorry to hear this pattern didn’t work out for you. It happens to us all and sometimes it’s better to look for a different pattern, as you are doing.
We’re all glad you found this forum, I love it here, all the help and encouragement is great and I learn so uych from reading and seeing what other people are making.
Looking forward to seeing your future projects.
Marianna Mel has a similar crossover, and it has received a lot of good reviews on her facebook group.
Redirecting... (and replace FB with the obvious word)
