Susanne Muller’s Nomad Hood question about work 58 rows in half fisherman’s rib until work from cast on edge measures approximately 6.7 to 7.1 inches. I have worked 34 rows and if measuring correctly am almost at 6.25 inches.
Are you counting each V of the rib pattern as 2 rows?
The pattern uses a DK weight yarn (44rows/4 inches in Fisherman’s rib). What yarn weight are you using and which yarn? You seem to be getting about 22 rows/4 inches.
Are you happy with the knit fabric in the Fisherman’s rib? Row gauge seems to vary for many of the projects for this hood, either too small or too large. If your row gauge is off but you’re on the correct stitch gauge, just go by the length measurement given in the pattern.
Thank you for your response. I’m using the dk weight yarn recommended in the pattern. Not sure of my inch measurement. I’m knitting back and forth counting each row. Will just stop when measurement reaches the right inches. When I put it on my head it just comes to the top of my ears.
It’s such a cozy, warm looking hood, just what so many of us need right now.
Is the photo tutorial any help? Your idea of trying it on and measuring inches rather than rows is the best way to go. Have fun with it and please do post a photo when you finish.
I just noticed that the hood is worked in half-Brioche which always seems much easier to me than Fisherman’s rib. Hope you’re enjoying it too.
There are a number of detailed pattern notes in Ravelry; maybe one of those might help?
I did the gauge square. The stitches measured 4 inches and the rows 4.25 inches so stayed with the # 4 3.5 cm circular needles.
That sounds good. Trying it on in progress when you get close to the length measurements is a good idea. And good going for making a gauge swatch!
