Help with Lion Brand pattern

Hello, I am trying to knit a scarf (Scardy Cat Scarf) and I’m having problems. The beginning of the pattern indicates that after you’ve increased to 18 sts., to knit till the piece mesures 3 1/2 in., then to start the cat chart. The 3 1/2 in of knitting does not look like the cats ears but a long rectangle with rounded edges (see picture attached and yes, you may laugh :teehee:). I would appreciate any advice to help me figure out what I’m doing wrong?
Thank you,
Lyne

Welcome to KH. Cute pattern.

Free Knitting Pattern: Scaredy Cat Scarf

You work the chart from the bottom up. You end with a partial row of Color B. By continuing the stripe sequence and completing the 4 rows with B the dark stitches on either side of the last row of the chart become the ears.

That’s how I’m reading it. If I got it wrong, someone else will get it right.

Hello, I really appreciate your quick reply and thank you for the welcome!

I did start the chart from bottom but I did this after casting on 10 sts and increasing until I had 18 sts. What is this supposed to be? Should I begin the scarf with the chart?

:teehee: I just realized that your picture has the ears at the bottom. :whoosh: I expect that if you just keep on with the pattern that after it is washed/dried or blocked as appropriate to your yarn it should look more like what you expect.

I need coffee. Then maybe I can see pictures right.

LoL!!!

It looks good and it all looks right to me. You started with the lower part of the cat’s face. The nose and whiskers will go here. Then you worked up to the ears and the first stripe. The stripes continue from here on until you finally come to the tail section.
Very cute pattern and nicely done.

Ah yes now I see it! Thank you Salmonmac
