Hi, can anyone help with this old Argyll knitting pattern, the graph has forward slashes on one side of the diagonal. I know on some patterns it means k2tog but this can’t be the case here as the stitch count is the same to the armhole. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Karen
Welcome to KH!
Is there a key to the chart symbols anywhere in the pattern? It could be a reminder to wrap the yarns to avoid a hole at the switch from garter to stockinette. Definitely not a decrease, I agree.
That does sound plausible, cause the stripe is in garter stitch , but there is a few with 2 forward slashes !
. And no chart abbreviations only the usual k, p, m1 etc.
thanks for you help.
I knit this child’s sweater which was all stockinette but there were no special symbols at the transition from one color to the next.
You could try out a few rows on a swatch just to see how it goes.
Thanks for that, I’ll just see how it goes.
Let us know. I can’t find any reasonable interpretation in a search for chart symbols (except for decreases).
Isn’t that unusual? It’s odd that some rows have 2 and some are missed out.
Have you swatched the garter intarsia? I’m just interested as I tried out some reverse stockinette and garter intarsia swatches a short while ago and expected to love it but didn’t like the result at all. It could have been the shape/pattern (large flowers) which I thought didn’t suit it. I feel like this design would work better as it’s more geometric. I’m still attracted to the idea of the technique, I hope we get to see the result.
