Help with knit companion

Has anyone used knit companion I just downloaded paid version. I have played with it for a week and watched tutorials but I finally got chart in correctly and wanted to use magic markers to color coat different stitches and I can get it to work or repeat for all stitches in chart especially the 3 different yo the chart has. My pattern is a drops design Butterfly Heart Top.

it does take playing around to learn the features. See if this tutorial on the magic markers helps.

Thanks for the help. I have watched videos but chart is so small knit companion has a hard time reading chart I think

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
It may be that you can take a photo of the chart and import it into Knit Companion then zoom in on the chart to enlarge.
See about 8:45min in this video.

And also here (7:45min) for the pinch zoom

The video explanations on the KC site are also very helpful.

Thanks for videos and help. I starting to think the problem is I’m using a Amazon Fire Tablet so I can’t get chart to a pdf. I think I need to stop frustrating myself and enlarge paper pattern and use highlighters to mark chart.

Technology is amazing but sometimes you can’t beat a piece of paper and a set of highlighters!
I much prefer to use a paper chart, various reasons but including that it is faster and easier for me to get a chart printed or photocopied and enlarged than it is to set up a chart on the tablet, and also in the past I have ended up having to have my tablet on charge while in use and I’m tethered to an electrical extension cord. I feel more free and more relaxed with paper too, a natural material. If I ever get to knit outside on a warm day the tablet is eiher frustrating or useless.
No doubt t I’ll use an online chart again at some point but the ones I need to pay attention to always end up printed.

I hope you manage to get your chart printed and enlarged as you want it.

Another method… technology again though… if your tablet does photos you can mark it up with a photo editor, there are highlighters and pens.
I remember your chart, it’s an old hand drawn Drops chart isn’t it? And the yarn overs are all different , I understand the need to colour code them.

Good luck.

Yes my chart is from Drops pattern “Butterfly Heart Top” I started it about a month ago and realized how complicated it was so I start another project with lace chart was able to use knit companion for those charts. So finished that project and went back to this butterfly pattern just can’t get knit companion to work with it.
This is pattern I did before going back to butterfly top. lhttps://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=8620&cid=17

The Amazon Fire tablet runs Amazon’s OS but it’s based on Android so this video may work.
You may have already seen the video for Android but it covers magic markers on charts at about 8:00min. You should be able to import the pattern by taking photos of the printed pages as shown for the ipad. Once you have the photos in KC, you can mark up as you wish.

It sounds like you’re having trouble using the Magic Markers feature in Knit Companion with your Drops Design Butterfly Heart Top pattern. Here’s how you can troubleshoot:

  1. Ensure You’re Using the Correct Tool : Make sure you’re using the Magic Markers tool correctly. You can usually find this in the app’s help section or tutorials.
  2. Check the Chart : Verify that the chart is properly loaded and visible in the app. Sometimes re-uploading or adjusting the view can help.
  3. Apply Markers :
  • Select the Magic Markers tool.
  • Choose the color and type of marker you want to use.
  • Click on the stitches in the chart to apply the markers.
  1. Use the Repetition Feature : To apply markers to similar stitches, use the repeat feature. This might be located under a tool or settings menu within the app.
  2. Consult Help Resources : If you’re still having trouble, refer to the Knit Companion help documentation or reach out to their support for specific guidance on applying markers to charts.

I hope this helps you get your pattern organized!

I think I’m done torturing myself with that chart like you said it maybe a hand written chart because I can’t get the grid to match up on knit companion. That’s for trying to help it’s much appreciated

The motto of KC is “Knit More, Frog Less” but it sounds like it’s just acting as a barriar at this point.
Highlighters as Creations suggested and highlighter tape (my go-to) work just as well.
Fiddle around some other time with a different pattern just to get KC working but enjoy knitting this top right now. It’s lovely.

Thank you and I’ll definitely try with a simpler chart

Thanks for all advice but I think problem is with pattern chart. It’s just not clear when I download it to knit companion it has gray shadows around grid lines which throws off knit companion. I finally got it chart setup by adjust stitches and rows in set up. Then went to magic markers and it will not highlight all the stitches. I think I’ve played around with knit companion longer than it would to just knit project. So I just don’t think this is pattern to use for knit companion.
