I am trying to do a button band on a child’s cardigan , sewing up as I go along. I have 8 stitches left on a holder. It says rejoin yarn with Rs facing, work in g-st like the back until button band. When slightly stretched fits up left front opening, sewing in place as you go.
I’m not sure which way the stitches should go on my needle and how to sew as I go along?
Please could anyone help?
Thanks
Julie

If the held sts are on waste yarn or it isn’t easy to knit from the holder, you could move the sts to the left hand needle and knit them from there with the new end of yarn.
You don’t necessarily have to attach the band as you knit it. In fact it is easier to knit until the band just about fits the left front, leave the live sts on the needle and then begin sewing up. If you get to the end and find you need more length, knit a couple more rows. If the band is too long you can easily tink out a row or two.
With the RS facing, the orientation of the buttonband sts is with the front edge stitch last to be knit.
A Bickford seam or a mattress stitch seam will work here. The mattress seam is sturdier however but in case you would like the Bickford here is a video.
I’ll have a go. Thank you for your help.
