Hello.
I’m following a pattern, and the instructions for one of the rows are as follows:
K3, *[p2, k1] twice, yo, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, s1 k1 psso, yo, [k1, p2] twice, k1; repeat from * to last 2sts, k2. (105sts)
I have an issue with this. According to the instructions, the repeated * part would have to be done 4 times to then get 100 and add the k3 and k2 and get the 105sts. However, that means each repeated part ends with 25sts. When I look at the instructions, my calculations give me 24sts. It feels like I’m doing one of the techniques wrong and I’m getting one fewer stitch than I should for each part. The only technique that gives an extra stitch, as far as I’m aware, is “yo”. Or am I wrong? Please help me with this, I’m very frustrated.
Welcome! What pattern is this from? A link to it would be great. Is this exactly as it is written in the pattern? I come up with the repeat giving 20 sts. Does the pattern say to work the repeat 4 times? A 20 st rpt worked 5 times should come out right.
[p2, k1] twice - 6sts
yo - 1
k2tog -1
yo - 1
k1 - 1
yo - 1
s1 k1 psso - 1
yo - 1
[k1, p2] twice - 6
k1 - 1
If I have counted correctly and it is a 20 stitch repeat, a photo of your work close up showing the stitches clearly would be very helpful in someone figuring out where you’re off.
No, a normal yo adds only one stitch. There exists increase methods giving you more than one stitch (for example m2 = doing m1 twice on the same bar) but most methods add only one single stitch.
Welcome!
It may be the way you’re working the yarn over. A yarn over doesn’t use a stitch. Simply bring the yarn to the front between the needles then over the right needle to the back. That’s it.
