Has anybody tried to knit the chunky cabled sweater from Zoe Mellors “Adorable knits for tots” on page 91? There is an error in the pattern instructions and I cannot find any corrections online. I have tried the cable over and over and there is definitely a problem. Has anybody tried to make this sweater and, if so, how did you correct it.
Thanks. :??
Whats the error, maybe we can help
There is a whole segment of one of the cables in the middle that is incorrect. I have knit four repeats of the pattern and each time there is a double cable on one side where there should only be a single. I have shown the pattern to my husband and he picked up right away that there is some repeat going on that is incorrect. There are 8 lines of pattern to the sweater but one of them is incorrect and I cannot figure it out. I thought maybe someone else who had knit it before me might have been able to help. I have read online that this book has lots of pattern errors but I have not been able to find any corrections. I may have to just unravel and find another pattern but if anyone has tried to knit this I would love to know what you did to correct it. :wall:
Have you tried emailing the publisher?
No but thank you for the tip. I might also take a picture and post it online with the pattern instructions in case someone will spot the error right away. Thank you so much.
Are the instructions written out? If so, you might try charting them on graph paper in order to detect what’s off.
That is a good idea too! Thanks
Hi Knewknitter, You have undoubtedly either figured this one out or gone on to a new pattern. I’m knitting the same pattern and thought there was an error which brought me to your post. I think the pattern is ok so far. There is an asymmetry in the center panel which joins a line of k2’s to the cables alternately from the left or right side. By the time you complete 8 rows the pattern emerges. It really is an adorable sweater. (My error turned out to be a mistake in counting!) Cheers!

Robin Hood Jacket
Robin Hood Jacket in Adorable Knits for Tots by Zoe Mellor. To work the back of the sweater, you’ll need to do the following:
Work rows 1-4 as stated. As you guessed, Row 5 and all WS rows will be the same as Row 3: knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. For Row 6, you will work Row 2, substituting “work 6th row of cable panel” each place “work 2nd row of cable panel” is written. Row 7 will be the same as Row 3, then Row 8 you will work Row 4, substituting “work 8th row of cable panel” each place “work 4th row of cable panel” is written. You’ll repeat this pattern of working Row 2 with the correct cable pattern, Row 3, Row 4 with the correct cable patter, Row 3. There is one exception to this pattern, and it is noted below.
Basically, to work the back of the jacket, you will follow the following pattern:
Row 1
Row 2
Row 3
Row 4
Row 5: Row 3
Row 6: Row 2, with proper cable row (6)
Row 7: Row 3
Row 8: Row 4, with proper cable row (8)
Row 9: Row 3
Row 10: Row 2, with proper cable row (10)
Row 11: Row 3
Row 12: Row 4, with proper cable row (12)
Row 13: Row 1 – this is different from other wrongside rows
Row 14: Row 2, with proper cable row (2)
Row 15: Row 3
Row 16: Row 4, with proper cable row (4)
Row 17: Row 3
Row 18: Row 2, with proper cable row (6)
Row 19: Row 3
Row 20: Row 4, with proper cable row (8)
Row 21: Row 3
Row 22: Row 2, with proper cable row (10)
Row 23: Row 3
Row 24: Row 4, with proper cable row (12)
Row 25: Row 1 – this is different from other wrongside rows
Row 26: Row 2, with proper cable row (2)
Row 27: Row 3
Row 28: Row 4, with proper cable row (4)
Etc.

Cabled Hat with Earflaps
Insert new paragraph under ‘to finish’:
To make the ties, cut six 60 cm/24 in lengths of A. Thread three of the lengths through the centre of the edging of each earflap. Taking three pairs of yarn lengths, make a plait/braid, knot the ends and trim.
Thanks very much for finding and posting the errata. I think I must have been working from a second edition of the book because my edition already had the correction in row 6 (‘as 2nd row’).
The correction for the second row, which essentially puts the cable in this row doesn’t make sense however for the version I have. It means you would cable in rows 2, 4, 6, and 8 which is a very tight cable. Again, maybe this is a difference between editions.
