Hi all,
I’m doing booties from Cleckheaton book no. 423, pattern 2 (sorry, no link it’s from a book), and am stuck, please help!
The pattern starts at the ankle, I have done the ankle part and shaped the instep. The instructions are as below:
SHAPE FOR INSTEP:
Work in stocking st. for rem.
Next row: K 20, turn, P8, turn. Cont. on centre 8 sts (leaving 12 sts on needle at each end) and work 14 rows stocking st. Break off yarn.
SHAPE SIDES:
with right side facing, rejoin yarn to end of 12 sts at right edge, knit up 10 sts evenly along the first side of instep, knit across 8 sts from end of instep, knit up 10 sts evenly along 2nd side of instep, then knit across rem 12 sts… 52 sts. Work 7 rows stocking st., beg with a P row.
I have done all the instep, the part I’m stuck on is where to start when I’m shaping the sides - if I have the right side facing me, I have 12 sts on the left needle followed by the centre 8, then 12 sts on the right needle. So… where do I start, and what on earth is ‘knitting up’ when both needles are full?
Apologies if this is a duh! question, I’m a beginner.
Thanks!
