Hi I am quite new to knitting and am confused by this chart - specifically the shape shoulders bit. I am the second smallest size. So I can see I need to cast off 3 stitches at the beginning of a number of rows but I don’t understand why the numbers are so different in the next square brackets. I read it as casting off 3 stitches at the beginning of the next 6 rows but why is the size down 14 rows and the next size up 18 rows? I also don’t understand the next set of square brackets with the funny symbols. Any help appreciated! Sorry if this is a silly question.
Welcome to KnittingHelp!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
It’ll help to circle the numbers for your size. The difference in the numbers for the other sizes is due to the shaping that the designer wants for those larger sizes. It will all work out in the end for each size.
For the second size, cast off 3 sts at the beginning of rows 1-6 then cast off 4sts at the beginning of rows 7-18. Using a sloped bind off will make these cast offs smoother and easier to seam.
The funny symbol may be the dash? That means to skip that direction for that particular size.
