Help With A Rowan Knitting Pattern

Just bought Rowan “Rust” scarf pattern by Sharon Miller. I think I’m an advanced beginner knitter. The pattern is identified at advanced beginner/intermediate level. I’m looking for help understanding this part of the pattern. Wondering if there is a source for video demonstrations for Rowan pattern. yrn = yarn round needle.

Row 11: Using yarn D *slip next 15 sts onto right needle dropping the
corresponding yrn with each st, slip all 15 sts back onto left needle (Note:
As yarn was used DOUBLE on previous row, there should be 30 loops
to slip back onto left needle – 15 in each colour), K15tog, **(yrn) twice,
K2tog, rep from ** once more, (yrn) twice, K1, (yrn) twice, ***K2tog tbl,
(yrn) twice, rep from *** once more, rep from * to last 15 sts, slip next
15 sts onto right needle dropping the corresponding yrn with each st, slip
all 15 sts back onto left needle (Note: As yarn was used DOUBLE on
previous row, there should be 30 loops to slip back onto left needle – 15
in each colour), K15tog.
Row 12: Using yarn A cast on and P 7 sts, K to end, working (P1, K1,
P1) into each double yrn of previous row, turn and cast on 7 sts.

Welcome to KH!
There are probably yarn overs or yrn on the previous row.

  1. When you slip the 15sts from the left to the right needle, drop the yarn overs off the needle. Then slip those 15sts (30 loops because of the doubled yarn) back to the left needle.
  2. Knit the 15sts together from the left needle.
  3. (yarn round the needle twice, k2tog) and repeat once more.
  4. Yrn, twice,K1, yrn twice.
  5. Now (k2tog through the back loop, yrn, yrn) and repeat the steps in parentheses once more.
Repeat the sequence from the beginning step #1 to the last 15sts, Knit these last 15sts together.

It may help to place markers between the various sets of steps to make sure that you stay on track. Take it step by step and you should be fine.
Here’s a video for yrn in case you need it. The idea of the double yarn overs is to give you large holes or eyelets in the lace pattern.

Thank you. Very helpful! Grateful!

Here’s a video for lace that is somewhat similar to the technique you are using. The demo uses double yarn over and adds back stitches while working the remaining sts together. Your instructions may use single yarn overs at this point and it compensates for the k15tog later in the row.
