Right, but stay in the 2x2 pattern - k2, pass 1st st over, p1, pass st over, p1, pass st over, k1 pass st over, etc. Just like you’re doing another row of ribbing, except the sts don’t stay on the right needle.
AWESOME… thanks I’ll try that… that seems MUCH easier than the sew off one that was in that pattern.
Course the Caston was just a straight cast on as well…
Hello everyone…
I’m back… been busy, but finally got these finished… on the base pattern… now I’m to do the thumb holes.
The way they had me do it was, with waste yarn, knit 6 stitches, slip the 6 stitches back to the left needle, and knit 6 again, with color.
Done, that we have those… now it says I need to carefully remove the waste yarn, pick up the bottom 6 stitches and the top 7 stitches each on a DPN…
So my question is… do I just put this yarn out and pick up the hanging loops…
This would be the first time I’ve done anything like this, and I want to make sure I do it right…
Thanks everyone. you guys have been awesome with helping with this project.
I do this by pulling the yarn out one stitch at a time while putting the st on a needle. It helps if you use a much smaller needle, then you can knit those sts with the regular one.
Okay… so yeah like I was saying you just pull it out slowly right… and grab the loops?
Sorry… I’m being a little thick on this cause I don’t want to screw it up…
And they say there should be 7 on top and 6 on bottom… let’s say I pull these out and only see 6 on each…
I’m assuming if this happens, I’ll be back for more help.
You should end up with an odd number because some of the sts will be ‘upside down’ but it’ll work out.
I do the same as Sue… pull the stitches out slowly and put them on a smaller needle.
OKay everyone… here is hopefully the last of my posts on this topic
So I pulled out the stitches… but I have 5 on top and 6 on bottom, except the 7/6 that it says in the instructions… I’ve attached a pic…
As well, can someone explain a little more clearer what this means
Work across bottom six stitches with B, pick up two stitches in the gap, work across top seven stitches, pick up two in gap. Cast off all thumb stitches.
When they mean across, what do they mean here… straight knitting? I assume as well, we want to use the same color that we would be extending…
Once again… love you guys for helping out…hope to get these darn things finished soon…
:woohoo: ![]()
Pick up the extra sts you’re missing, plus the ones mentioned in the pattern, in the gap between the 11 you have on the needles. They should have said around instead of across. I think you’ll end up with 17 st.
Well here’s the thing… I can’t find any dropped stitches… if you look at that pic… all the stitches that were pulled from the yarn, are on the needle. Do you think I should try to pick up stitches… cause there aren’t any hanging stitches…
The other thing… we must all remember that I’m still learning. The most I’ve done is hats and scarfs…
How do you pick up two in the gap… :S
I’m totally confuzled…
When you pick up stitches in the gap you just stick your needle in there somewhere and wrap the yarn and pull it through. I try to pick them up kind of evenly over the gap. If there are any holes when you’re done with the thumb you can use the tail to fix them when you’re weaving in the end.
I just found these when I was looking for pictures of how to pick up stitches in the gap. Sometimes they don’t require picked up stitches apparently, but they do offer help for that and just for picking up the stitches you have on the needle now.

These actually show how to pick up stitches for the thumb

Right, it’s not ‘pick them up because you’ve dropped them’ - it’s ‘pick them up as new stitches’.
alrighty this is getting really really confusing to me… I’m gonna have to try to find someone locally that can show me how to do this… cause it’s just not sinking in…
I appreciate all the help… I’m stuck at the point where I have 5 stitches instead of 7…
I appreciate all the help guys…
