help with a pattern please?

Hello! I’m very new at knitting, glad this website exists. I’m trying to do a knitted octopus pattern and i’m stuck on this part!

Row 33 : RS - put first stitch one piece of waste yarn
(WYR), k2, put last stitch on the other piece
of waste yarn (WYL)
Row 34 : CO1, p2, CO1
Row 35-36 : repeat Row 33-34
Place leftmost two stitches on WYL (Waste Yarn Left).
Ie. Slip two st, put next two stitches on WYL.
The first tentacle will use these two slipped stitches

I have never worked with waste yarn before… I tried looking at tutorials on youtube but i just don’t really know what the pattern wants me to do here. The number of stitches i end up with doesnt seem to match what the pattern is saying. And when and where am I supposed to slip the stitches?
Sorry I’m so lost… If anyone could help i would be very grateful!!

Welcome to the forum!
What is the name of your pattern and the designer or source?
Waste yarn is just a short length of yarn which can be used to hold stitches. You could use a stitch marker, safety pin or paper clip just as well.
How many stitches are on the needle before the directions you posted?
There’s one stitch each edge from row 33 and one stitch each edge from row 35.
After row 36 the stitch count gets murky. The next 2sts are slipped and then I’m not sure where the following 2sts come from either. Maybe knowing the pattern name and source will help.

Thank you!
The pattern is called ‘‘Demi octopus’’ by Jennifer Wang. It’s free to download on ravelry. The part i’m stuck on is the body of the octopus
And I have 4 stitches on the needle.

I’m away from yarn and needles at the moment but I would try using the center 2sts for the first tentacle.
I’ll also give this a try on the needles.

The only thing I changed was where the pattern says:
“Place leftmost two stitches on WYL (Waste Yarn Left).
Ie. Slip two st, put next two stitches on WYL.”

Since you only have 4 sts on the needles at that point, I put the leftmost 1 stitch on WYL and the right most 1 stitch on WYL. There are then 2sts on WYR and 4sts on WYL. That seems to work.
