I have a pattern to knit a toy duck it’s say ,work in rev st.st. For the second piece, what does that mean. Thanks to anyone who can help.
Reverse stockinette stitch
Yes, reverse stockinette stitch which is the purl side or the loop side of stockinette stitch, the V side.
Here is a glossary of knitting terms and abbreviations that might be helpful to you in the future (or you can always ask us, of course).
However, I don’t see the abbreviations for the kinds of stitches. Perhaps that might be something Amy and Sheldon could add to the glossary!
Reverse st.st is where you knit into the back of the stitch instead of the front
Knitting into the back of the stitch instead of the front is knitting through the back loop -
k tbl aka K1 tbl, K1b
Knit stitch through the back loop
copied from the Glossary, link above.
Some of these terms can get quite confusing until you get used to them.
Very few stitch patterns have abbreviated names, but ‘rev. st. st.’ is on the glossary, between ‘rep.’ and ‘RH’.
Knitting into the back of every knit stitch (in Western knitting), when doing stocking(ette) stitch creates Twisted Stocking(ette) Stitch. I don’t know how the Eastern and Combination knitters work their stitches to get Twisted Stocking Stitch.
my earlier response was wrong,I’m sorry. Reverse st.st is simply starting with a purl row instead of a knit. Then your purl side is the right side
Not to worry. Lots of people reading threads helps keep us all on our toes. We all make mistakes…at least I know I do. I’ve given the wrong answer before and someone else made sure it was corrected. It gave me the confidence to risk being wrong. I may have learned more from those mistakes than any other way.
No problem! As long as you understand and the original poster understands we’re good. It’s a check to make sure all of us understand too.
as long as the answer in the end is correct it doesn’t matter who gave it at all
