I am stuck on the shape neck part…

I get that I bind of a portion of the center for the neck hole. But how do I "Continue to work each side at same time with separate balls of yarn,…"
and then how do I cast on the back neck?

You work the first sts, drop that yarn, then add another strand/ball of yarn and BO the neck sts and finish the row. Turn and do a WS row to the gap, drop the yarn, pick up the other one and finish that row. And so on. To cast on for the back, use the knit or cable cast on. Move the R needle to your L hand, CO and switch the needle back to the R and finish knitting.

So do I need a third needle or stitch holder? I am not getting this… :frowning: Let’s see if I work then bind off then work it’s all on the same needle with a gap of bound off stitches in the middle?

Yep, there’s sts for one shoulder, then the bound off sts, then the sts for the other shoulder. It’ll make more sense when you do it.
