Help - Vertical & Horizontal Stripes Scarf

Ok, I’ve been asked to do a scarf, with two colors and horizontal and vertical stripes.

I’ve been thinking about the best way to achieve this.

And I thought maybe you could help me.

It can be knitted or crocheted.

With fair isle, there would be major loose carrying strands, intarsia seems a bit awkward since there would be a lot of color changed for the vertical stripes, so a lot of yarn to keep up with…

Double knitting could be useful, but that would make the scarf too thick. It has been specified that it shouldn’t be thick.

So, any suggestions?

I did a crocheted ‘log cabin’ afghan. But it’s blocks seamed together.
You wouldn’t want to carry any yarn on the scarf since they don’t always lay right side up.
I think the only solution is to get REALLY good at joining and tying off ends.
Tough project…good luck!

For a vertical striped scarf, how about knitting it sideways (On the long side)? Cast on for however long you want it to be, and then knit stripes.
