Help to understand a knitting pattern

Hi,
Could you help me to understand a sweater pattern by Batik DK 9296.I’m knitting size 8/9 years.I’ve knitted the first 2 rows 7 more times and Next Row.What do I do now?How do I work out the decrease rows(6th 12th 18th).

Welcome to the forum!

Can you quote a few rows at the decrease instruction? Don’t give us a large portion of the pattern due to copyrights.

Next row:

Next row:P7(8:11:12:15),(K1,P1,k,1p2tog,p7p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p25(29:29:31:31),k1,p1,k1,p2tog,p7,p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p7(8:11:12:15).93(99,105:109:115)sts.
Last row sets vent decs.Cont as set, working 2sts less in each vent after dec row, work 18 rows decreasing 1 st each side of each vent on every foll 6th row to 69(75:81:85:91)sts.
I don’t know what I do after the next row.The size I’m knitting I 8/9 years the last but one in the brackets.I hope you will be able to help.Thank you.

If you call the “Next Row”, row 1 then you’ll decrease on rows 7, 13 and 19. (Rows 2-19 will be the 18 rows the pattern says to work.)
Work the sts as you have been, knitting the Vs and purling the bumps. It looks like it may be seed stitch at the k1,p1,k1 sections so continue that pattern in those columns. When you get to row 7 work a decrease row. There’ll be 5st between the vents instead of 7 because of the p2tog in “Next Row”.

Row 7 P12 (K1,P1,K1, p2tog,p5,p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p31, (k1,p1,k1, p2tog,p5, p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p12.

Thank you for your help!

I am also having trouble with the pattern as above 9296. ‘Last row sets vent decs’ .
What does this sentence mean?
I don’t understand the answer given to ang4arad (above). I’m doing it in size 4/5.

The pattern is telling you where to place the decreases. The stitch number between decreases will change (due to previous decreases) so you can’t just follow the purl stitch numbers but the location of the decreases will be aligned.

So for example for the 2nd size, if on one row you p7 between the p2tog decreases, on the next decrease row you’ll purl 5 between the p2tog decreases.

Next row: P8,(K1,P1,k1,p2tog,p7, p2tog)twice, k1,p1,k1,p29,(k1,p1,k1,p2tog,p7,p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p8. (99)sts.

Row 7 P8 (K1,P1,K1, p2tog, p5 ,p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p31,
(k1,p1,k1, p2tog, p5 , p2tog)twice,k1,p1,k1,p12.

The placement of the decreases next to the k1,p1,k1 pattern will be the same but the number of purl sts (bolded) will change as you work decrease rows. Placing markers before and after the k1,p1,k1 stitches will help with working the decreases.

So, 11 rows in each set? I.e. row 1 and 2 then 4 times more equals 10 rows and filled by the decreasing row…11 rows ?

I don’t have the pattern. You won’t be able to work more than 4 decrease rows given the rows that have been posted. Does the pattern say to repeat rows 1 and 2 four more times? From the photo it looks like there should always be a space between the k1p1k1 patterns.
Can you quote the decrease rows and the following directiion about repeats of the rows please? Don’t give us a large portion of the pattern due to designer copyright.

@salmonmac I think the row has already been posted previously.
It’s another 18 rows and as you say, not more than 4 sets of decreases altogether.
8 decreases in the “next row” row which sets the position of the decreases, then start counting at row 1 again dec on rows 6, 12, 18.
The other rows have no decreases and continue pattern as set.

Yes, no more than 4 decrease rows whatever the spacing.
