HELP s1, *k1, sl1* HELP

I am knitting a very easy sock pattern but I have come to the heel part and I read

Row 1 (RS): s1, k1, sl1 repeat across from * end k1

What does this mean? Do I slip the first stitch, then knit one slip another stitch? Or is this SSK? or is this Knit slip PSSO? Do I slip in a knit pattern or a purl pattern?

Am I making any sense?

I am such a newbie.
Thanks in advance,
D

I think it means to start of by slipping one then knit then slip then knit… until you get to the end. The end has to be a knit one. Hope this helps!

Thanks that is what I thought but it seemed so weird to me to slip so many stitches.
I am reading way too much into it I guess.
Thanks again.

Your welcome! Glad I could help! Is the pattern hard? I have been wanting to knit socks but I could not find an easy enough pattern…

So far super easy.

I ran across this pattern a long time ago–it was called something like ''sock-heel rib". You slip every other stitch on the RS rows and purl across the back on the WS. Comes up with a slightly stretchy rib-like stitch that I think was supposed to be resistant to wear.

So now I am stuck because I am not sure how to slip the stitch. Do I slip it knitwise or purlwise? Does it matter that I knit continental style…I had to be different!! Now I am cursing myself!
Thanks,
D

It shouldn’t matter if you’re knitting continental vs. english. I knit continental and when I do a sock heel with the K1, sl1 pattern, I slip as if to purl.

I was afraid you were going to say that. I guess I have to rip out 2 rows. BLASTED!!
Thanks,
D

If you haven’t ripped them out yet, stop!!! It will not make that much of a difference, and as long as you make both socks the same it will be just fine. Of course if you want to rip it you can, but it is not necessary.

Have I mentioned that I LOVE YOU.
Thank you thank you thank you.

Glad to help. I’m sure it’ll all work out!
