Hello,
Ugh I would say I am intermediate knitting trying to start my first garment. I do understand the progression of this pattern. I am suppose to do the twisted rib until 1 1/4 inches…got it purl one row got it next instruction is to shape pockets ok…but then cast on 21 for row1 & row 2… confused!!! ANY KNOW THIS PATTERN???
Ok I think I need to learn casting and binding off mid-row… for shaping the pockets. so does this create the hole for the pocket in the vest but not the liner???Can any one explain this to me or send me a website or book to check out?
I’m not familiar with that particular pattern, but often when there are pockets in a sweater, you knit the liners separately. Then when you get to the pocket placement, you bind off stitches for the pocket opening.
Then you knit across the body stitches up to the pocket and knit the held stitches of the liner and finish the body row and continue up from there.
Later on, you pick up the edges of the stitches you bound off for the pocket and add an edging, often ribbing, and sew the bottom of the pocket lining to the inside of the sweater.
Does this make any sense at all?
Yes, that would probably make the pocket opening. Use a knitted or cable cast on, videos in the CO section. Even though they start with a slip st, you start the CO with the last st you knitted, and will probably have to move your right needle to the left hand for the CO.
