Help Needed

Question:

I’m dyeing my yarn soon. I bought food coloring & Kool Aid.

I don’t like the way the pink mixture turned out when I tried to create it with the food coloring. I love it with the Kool Aid.

I’m not stove dyeing, but using the microwave method.

Can I just paint the parts I want with the food coloring mixture (water, vinegar, & the color) & the other parts with Kool Aid?

Basically, can I dye with both at the same time?

Absolutely! there are no rules when it comes to dyeing with food coloring & cool aid.

If you can find black food coloring, give it a try. It won’t dye black and the ‘breakage’ will surprise you!

Where would I find black dye?

I just tried it & it’s so cute! I did both. The purple isn’t as nice, though. I think I’m going to have to find the McCormick Neon food coloring to get the purple I want.

The yarn is drying now. Once it’s done, I’ll wrap it into a hank & I’ll post it!

It might be hard to find at this time of the year, it’s more of a halloween color. I found it at the grocery store. It’s in a bottle, not those cute 4 packs.

You might want to ask at a local bakery if they have a little to spare.

If you want a brighter color, you have to use a lot of cool aid or food coloring. Just one of the reasons I said commercial fiber dyes are more economic. Put the cats in the bedroom and get some good dye if the neon colors don’t work for you.

Specialty shops that carry Wilton cake decorating supplies would probably have black food dye.

I’ve done about 3 skeins now using Kool-Aid. They are super bright & super cute!!

And they smell awesome. Lol.

PICTURES!!:yay:

Yeah, pictures!

That’s the best gif I’ve ever seen!!! Pics please, Michelle!

Agreed.

Lol!!!

Sorry, guys. I’ve been away from the forum for a while. I’ve done a lot of dyeing. I’ll post pictures now.

Purty, purty, purty.

Thanks, guys!! I’m officially obsessed with dyeing yarn now.

I still have a few of those if you need more. Just let me know.
