Hi - I laddered down to correct a mis-crossed cable and ended up leaving loose
strands too far back to fix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
It may seen totally weird but you need ladder down more stitches. You’ll undo all the stitches in at least the side that has the mistake. I would drop down all the stitches in the cable section but that might not be necessary. I prefer to dig out dpn for this lovely task but dpn aren’t required. I won’t say it’s an easy fix but once you see what’s involved I’m sure you’ll do fine. Good luck with it. I’d love to see it all fixed.
Are the strands missed stitches from when you laddered down and you accidnetally missed these? Or are they all worked in but just very loose yarn?
I must say you’ve done a great job if that entire cable was laddered down and worked back up, I’m really impressed. I have tried this on a pattern of travelling stitches and totally failed.
If you have already laddered down and back up you likely really don’t feel like doing it again, but the skill you’ve got in being able to work it back so neatly shows that you can do it, and do it well.
Maybe just take a deep breath and go for it again to catch those strands?
If you really don’t want to ladder down again you could secure the strands on the back with a loop of thread to replace the marker and weave in the ends to prevent further laddering or catching.
The knitting is great - i think it’s well worth the re-do.
I’ve just used this cable pattern myself for the first time.
If they’re all just very loose stitches, you can tighten them up by tugging at the stitches next to them, one loop at a time. This will redistribute the yarn across the rows. Work both directions out from the loose stitches. You’ll have to go several stitches away on each side, but the excess will eventually be worked back in. I use a DPN or cable needle to do this.
Thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much - I’m going to try this and see how it goes!
You’re welcome. I hope you have success with redistribution of the yarn if they are just loose loops.
Let us know how you get on.
