I need a medium to dark taupe to make an aran afghan. I don’t mind wool even if its not washable, I just need the color. I also would prefer nothing heathered. And I don’t mind an acrylic blend, but don’t think I could do a 100% acrylic!
I’m pretty sure you won’t want cotton, but Sugar and Cream make something called Soft Taupe. I’ve knit a string bag with this and it is much taupe-er in person. I got it at Joanns, so you could look at it first.
boo, on that Knitting Warehouse link you’ll see listings for Paton’s Classic Merino and the Decor yarn. I’ve used both for afghans and they’re lovely to work with.
I was checking Paton’s Decor Yarn on Herrschners and they do have several shades of taupe, one is a dark taupe, one a lighter shade. It is 3-ply, 210 yards, 20 sts + 26 rows = 4". It is 75% acrylic and 24% wool, priced at $4.99. I am thinking of making an afghan from one of the kits offered by Herrschners made from this yarn. Good luck on your search.
I know you said you didn’t care if it was superwash, but why not get superwash and make it easy on yourself. Who wants to handwash I giant afghan or always have it dry cleaned? Taupe is an easy color to get, you’ll have plenty of choices, so also throw in some more desired things for yourself.
