I’m new to this forum and this is my first post. I learnt basic knit stitiches from this site. Thanks for ‘Knittinghelp.com’. I successfully completed knitting my first sacrf with rib stitich. Now i want to make scarf with two colors alternating and i have a doubt. I’m not sure the way i want to do is right. This is how i want to do
With Color A yarn- 5 inches *
With Color B yarn- 5 inches. *
repeat*
Now after knitting with color A for about 5 inches I shud join color B to Color A and knti together for 3 stitches (more/less) and then carryon knitting with color B and cut off color A yarn (will be on wrong side of scarf).
Now after finishing knitting with color B for about 5 inches. I shud join color A to Color B and knti together for 3 stitches (more/less) and then carryon knitting with color A and cut off color B yarn.
is this way of knitting is correct. Does outcome produce neat scarf?
With alternating colours, it is not the best idea to knit with the two colours together when joining them because it will not be invisible. It is a great way to join when you are just adding a new ball of the same colour, but with two strands of different colours together, you will be able to see it. The best way, in my opinion, is to just cut the old colour, leaving about a 6" tail. Then, tie the new colour onto the old colour with a slip knot (ie. temporary knot) then slide the new colour up snug with the needle. Start knitting with the new colour only. Do this at every colour change and then at the end you will untie those temporary knots, twist the two strands together once, then using a tapestry needle weave in the two strands to their corresponding coloured stitches on the wrong side of the scarf. This will be the least noticeable way to do it. You will find a video demonstrating this method on this page under ‘joining a new color yarn’ and its the one called ‘duplicate stitch join’ that you will want to look at.
