I’m knitting a top for my mother and it calls for Rowan 4ply cotton. I can’t really find a color in it I like. Can anyone suggest an alternative (and preferably economical) yarn I can substitute? Here’s a link to the pattern.
According to Yarndex it’s a fingering weight cotton so find some that weight (sock weight) and it should work.

I looked on Ravelry and people have used a variety of yarns including Paton’s Grace, Brown Sheep Cotton Fine, Jaeger Sienna, and more.

That is a DK weight yarn, so you could replace it with a different yarn that is the same weight. What is it you are planning to knit? That will give us a better idea of what to suggest.

That is a beautiful dress! Being that it is a summer dress, I would steer away from anything with wool. It is helpful if you can find a yarn that has a similar amount of yardage as the yarn you are looking to substitute.
This yarn is a sesame color and is on sale, if you like the color it could be a possibility:
Maybe do a search for DK weight yarns and see what you come up with. Why did you not want to use the yarn that is suggested?
