Hi. Everyone. Just wanted to know why i need circular needles for this cardiwrap? I am a new knitter. Would it be ok for me to use single pointed needles?
29” Length circular knitting needle, size 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
16” Length circular knitting needle, size 7 (4.50 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
Pretty much, and here’s why:
You need the 16" because the sleeves are knit in the round. So you could use DPNs if you wanted to, but with the number of sts and the lacy drape of the fabric, circs will be much easier to deal with.
You need the 24" because there are so many sts cast on that it would be hard to fit them all on straight needles, which usually top out at 14".
You can’t substitute dpns for the 29" because it’s for the body of the sweater. It’s knit flat, you can use circulars for that to hold all the stitches. I only use circs for all knitting, flat or in the round, they’re much easier to use than straight ones.
