Hi there lovely people, I would love some help on this part of the Lighthouse Vest pattern from Garnstudio. In particular, I’m confused on whether I place the stitches then continue on with the row, come back and then place the next set of stitches on the thread etc.
Welcome to the forum!.
You’re not alone in your confusion on the diagonal shoulder shaping. Comments on Ravelry and below the pattern on the Drops site reflect this. It’s the strangest way to write short row shaping ever.
The way it’s written, you would shape the shoulders by placing sts on hold on a thread (or on the end of the needle and ignoring them for the moment). For the smallest size it’s 5sts each side and then surely, 8sts each side. If you simply ignore these held sts at the ends of the needle you won’t have to move them to a string then shift them back a couple of rows later. Then all the sts are worked across the back. At some point the middle sts are bound off for the neck.
Rather than putting sts on hold and then twisting to cover the gaps or holes at the join it would be easier to work short rows (e.g. German short rows or wrap & turn) which will avoid the holes.
Just in case you’d like to use this technique.
