Help deciphering a pattern

Hello!

I started this knitting project, but I somehow lost the instructions/pattern.

Can anyone help me decipher what this pattern was? Any and all help would be appreciated!

Hello! This looks like a form of basket weave stitches - this alternates knits and purls, over a variable number of stitches and rows. For example k2 P2 over 2 rows, and then P2 K2 over two rows. However, your stitch pattern appears irregular and staggered, e.g. some of your knit columns are 4 stitches high and others are two,
and other stitch columns have the occasional purl. Are you usually confident about reading your stitches? Can you remember what you were trying to make? Maybe you were just trying out yarn?
Sorry I can’t be of more help. :slightly_frowning_face:

Hi Mel61!

Thanks for all of your help! I really do appreciate the time you took to try to figure it out!

Your explanation makes sense to me, as I remember that it was supposed to be a staggered pattern, and labeled as “easy”, so it should all be only knitting and purling. My problem is, I just can’t figure out how many each one was!

I just got back into knitting a month ago (after a few decades away!) and this was the first project I tried making. I want to say it was a pattern that came free on the back of the yarn label, but I misplaced the instructions. :’(

I can’t help with the pattern but just wanted to say there are many free blanket or throw patterns available, if it came to it and you had to rip this out and start again I’m sure you’d find something nice to make. If you’ve just got back into knitting you might not be aware of just how much stuff is available online now, I know I was amazed when I returned to knitting after about 30 + years. What a change!

Could it be something like this?
When you have the pattern established, it gets easier as you can follow the stitches in the row below so that they are stacked regularly. E.g. a knit stitch will look like a V in the row below and a purl will look like a bump. Then, when it’s time to alternate, you just form the opposite stitch for the next row and then continue for the required number of rows.

Hello Mel61!

That basketweave looks so pretty! Maybe it was supposed to be that, but I messed it up somehow? Thank you for finding this and sharing it with me!

Also, thank you so much for your explanation on how the stitches should look and feel like, that really helps me a lot.

I think I might undo this project and follow along this pattern. I saved it to my phone, so hopefully, this time ot won’t get lost

Good luck! It’s all good experience!
( I’ve just pulled back a whole t- shirt after a silly sizing error!):rofl:

If you lose this pattern from your phone it will just be here in this thread, easy to find.

I’ve done a lot of frogging (ripping out) recently, it can feel a bit sad just before hand but oddly cleansing not long after it’s done.

Knitting friends!

You guys are amazing, and I wanted to share the good news: I found the original pattern! The paper is still lost (unfortunately) but I remembered that I had found a YouTube video that explained it! However, since I watched it on the TV, it was on my fiancé’s history, not mine, since he’s logged into the TV…

I’ve started it again, and it looks much better now, I think:

Mel61, please let me thank you again, because your explanation is helping me stay on track as I work on this project. And again, big thanks to you and Creations for being so helpful, patient and kind!

Happy crafting! :purple_heart:
