I’m struggljng to get this pattern to work. I’ve got correct amount of stitched, but it doesn’t work out! Please, does anyone have this pattern? It’s quite old. I bought from Vinted.

Yes, that’s the one. It’s the first row of pattern, I’m doing the sleeve first to get used to the pattern but it’s numbers are not working out!
Can you give us your starting stitch number before beginning the row and the complete sleeve row 1 please? Either an exact quote or a photo of the row will help.

I have to start the row knitting 21stitches, then follow the pattern panel which is sent as a picture.

The pattern row works out starting with 37sts in the pattern panel and ending with 45sts.
- p2, k1, (yfwd, k1)x4, p2 * takes 9sts and leaves you with 13
k2, yfwd, k4, k2tog, yfwd, s1, k2tog, psso, yfwd, s1, k1, psso takes 13sts and leaves you with 12sts
k4, yfwd,k2, takes 6sts and leaves you with 7sts
the repeat between the asterisks (the program is adding a bullet at the beginning of the repeat instead of the asterisk) again takes 9sts and leaves you with 13sts.
9+13+6+9=37
13+12+7+13=45
It could be the double decrease that’s causing a problem, the slip one, k2tog, pass slipped stitch over. Are you short of enough sts or do you have too many sts? It sometimes helps to place marker either side of the lace pattern and then go back over the sts and name them.

Does ending with 45 stitches mean I end with more stitches than I started with ie increases?
Let us know how it goes. Often the first few rows are trouble until you get the pattern panel set. It’s a very pretty top and worth the extra time and care to get it right.
Yes, that middle panel starts with 37sts and ends with 45.
There’s the yfwd in the repeat which is used at the beginning and end of row for 2x4 increases and four other yfwd increases for a total of 12 increases.
There’s k2tog, a S1, k1, psso and a double decrease (S1, k2tog, psso) for a total of 4 decreases. That’s a grand total of 8 increases across the row (37+8=45).
Having tried again from the pattern and again from your email, I’m still left with7 stitches of the 37 panel stitches I started with!

Just to get through this row you might try adding additional temporary markers.
Where salmonmac has set out the pattern showing how many sts it uses and how many result, this would be a great place to put extra markers. You can remove them once you’ve got the row finished.
Count off 9 place marker, work the pattern stitches, if you do not reach the marker then this helps identify which part of stitch pattern is going awry. If you reach the marker there should be 13 sts made between beginning of panel marker and that temporary marker.
Then count off 13, place marker, work the stitches, if you reach the marker there should be 12 sts.
And so on.
Don’t move forward with the pattern if any section doesn’t add up or use the correct number.
I have done this before and it really helped me. I think others do it too from time to time, just to get going.

For the decreases, the k2tog is pretty standard. Here’s a video for the other two decreases just in case they help.
Definitely slip knitwise for this slip, knit, pssso
When you work the yarn over are you bringing the yarn to the front between the needles then over the right needle to the back. That’s the yfwd. There’s no knit stitch needed as part of this operation.
Can you post a photo of your first row, the lace panel and we can likely see the stitches and pick out what is going off. We’ll get there with you!

Not sure if this will help with the first row because it’s not so easy to see the stitch pattern at this point.
The red dots show the k2tog, yfwd, s1, k2tog, psso, yfwd, s1,k1, psso. The slip 1, k2tog, psso or sk2p should be the center of the lace panel. You might mark off the center 7sts before you begin the row. That way you may be able to localize the problem to the sts before, in the center or after the center portion.
The purple line is the k4 and the yellow the yfwd, k2.
