Having a Hard Time W./ Amigurumi

I thought I’d try my hand at amigurumi since it is crocheting in rounds (similar to the beret I made). The problem? I keep losing stitches somewhere. Almost all of the patterns I looked at start the same way: ch2, work 'X’sc into first ch. Then, next round: 2sc into first st, 1 sc around. Then, 2sc into first st, 2sc around. And so on. And fortunately, most of the patterns I’ve looked at tell you how many stitches you should have at the end of each round. But for some odd reason, between the 2nd and 4th or so rounds, I end up losing st. I have counted, worked, and reworked the st over and over again. (I think I’ve done more ripping than crocheting - LOL!) Any suggestions from you more experienced crocheters out there? Thanks in advance!

Are you using a stitch marker at the beginning of each round?

I am. I think either I am not paying full attention once I have to work on rounds 2+ as to the number of sc(s) or I am not counting the stitches correctly. I am re-reading my crochet tutorial on the basics of stitches so that I can eliminate that as a suspect.

Does the pattern say to count the first sc/chain as a stitch?

It says to work 6sc into the first ch.

Hi!

I think it’s pretty common when you first start with amigurumi to “lose” sts. At least when I first started I found it easy to do during the increase rounds because I’d skip an increase somewhere accidentally.
What works for me is to count the sts as I do them. I have a way of doing it that helps me keep track but it is really confusing to try and explain…I’ve just rewrote this paragraph a coupel of times haha…

You might try googling amigurumi tutorial because there are a ton out there and you will probalby pick up some helpful tips!
