I posted this on Ravelry earlier today, but I can’t resist sharing it here too.
This morning I saw a TV ad for something called a “Snuggie” – have you seen this thing?
They start out saying something like, “Are you cold in your house, but you don’t want to turn up the heat? Blankets are okay, but they don’t stay in place, and your arms are trapped so you can’t reach for the remote.”
The answer is the Snuggie, a big fleece blanket – with sleeves. You slip it on in front of you, so the opening is in the back; the top edge of the blanket lies in folds around your neck and shoulders. There are a couple of colors to choose from, but the ones they displayed were all a brilliant scarlet. They show a bunch of different people doing stuff while wrapped up in this thing … holding a child, a pet, sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows, and one lady who’s sitting on her sofa knitting!
Wait a minute -- if she’s cold, maybe she could knit herself one of those handy dandy things called a [I]sweater[/I], it’s like a portable blanket with sleeves … and it has the added benefit of NOT making you look like a cult member!
My response was similar to yours, except, I made myself something very like it. My DH has no internal thermostat and gets ‘superheated’ every night due to MS, and I’m always cold. So fleece for me, and a fan for him.
Don’t look like a cult member, though, more like a penguin lover.
They had something like that back in the 70s during the first `energy crisis’ when we were urged to turn down our thermostats. It was like a sleeping bag that zipped up the front though not all the way so you could fold the top of it over your arms and velcro the edges together for sleeves. I forget what they were called.
I wasn’t quite getting the visual, so looked it up on YouTube. You can see the commercial here.
My question is…what about your back? They show it going over your front, which is probably fine in a chair or couch, but walking around? Seems like your back would be a tad chilly!
You could turn it around and call it a robe which would work equally well and you probably already have one in your closet to no need to spend money on this silly thing. :teehee:
That is what I thought.:roflhard: Just put your robe on backwards. I am making myself a Faroese Shawl to keep the chill off this winter. And stoking the wood stove.
Well, I guess I didn’t say that quite right. It’s not really the red color that made me think of a cult-type robe. The image that really struck me that way was when I saw the folks all sitting around the campfire roasting marshmallows (I believe) and they were all wearing the same color. Uniformity has always bothered me

Yeah, I’d be tripping all over myself if I tried to walk around in it.
I actually feel much cozier when I wear my robe right way around and can cross my arms in front of me and pull the edges close. But that’s just me.
Oh you beat me Pam, I was going to say I got that email myself with the snuggie for knitting and or crochet. They call it the wrap-ghan.
I don’t think so a lot of yarn when I could make a lap ghan instead.
