Hat with the beautiful "swirl" dec ...I found it!

My friend was just diagnosed with breast cancer and will have to have chemo. I want to make her a hat. I have looked and looked and it can’t find the pattern of the hat with the pretty swirl decrease on top. Maybe it was light pink. I think one of the guys made one. Anyone remember what it was called, or where I can find the pattern ?

(This reminds me of when one of my students says , “Where is that book with the girl on the front that I wanted to check out last week, but decided on a different one. I think it was red or maybe it was green.” )

Most standard decreases will give you that swirl pattern on the top.

I think this one is something “special” because it doesn’t look like a regular hat top …

Norman … did you knit it???

I posted the same question not long ago, here’s a link to my post:

There’s this wonderful book that Amy offers a link to in the freepattern/book section It’s called:

The Knitters Handy Book of Patterns… I got it for Christmas and it’s AWESOME and it shows how to do this for multiple sizes and yarns.

This isn’t a chemo cap, but it has a very pretty swirl decrease design.

Here’s a really pretty (shown in light pink) cap on Marnie’s site, which has a beautiful swirl design on the crown.

I FOUND IT!!!

It actually is a chemo hat … and the swirl is a star … but it is pink!

Thanks everyone for your hlep … I love the patterns you suggested !

:roflhard: :roflhard: And your link goes to the Booby Scarf!! It’s pink, too. :roflhard:

Booby scarf… LOL That hat is pretty!

Yes, it was a whole “Knitty” for Breast Cancer … and I think there is a whole thread about that booby scarf! If we didn’t live in Florida I would be knitting scarves! A group of very close friends got together yesterday and made bracelets to wear as our friend goes through this. They are Pretty and Pink and booby scarves would go with them perfectly, dahling!

I keep looking at the hat pattern, it is harder than anything I have knitted so far … and it is all chart … I am going to give a gauge swatch a try! Do I knit the gauge in the round? Here are the gauge swatch instructions:

Over two reps of chart patt (36 sts) from round 13 through 44 (32 rounds) 36sts = 4.125 and 32 rounds = 3inches
Allow fabric to relax when measuring for gauge

if it is done in the round … is the 4.125 inches around the swatch or one flat side …

I think I need to stop reading and analyzing and start knitting

Your gauge can be different in the round than flat, mainly because your purl gauge can be different than your knit gauge, if you know what I mean. In circ knitting the difference comes from always knitting on the front.

You don’t have to do your swatch in the round, the point is to only work on the front.

Cast on on circular needles, knit across. Instead of turning the work, slide your work to the other end of the needle and let your yarn drape loosely across the back so you can knit across the front again. Don’t cut the loop. Just allow it to hang there so you can use the yarn again for your project if you want.
