I’m working on my first project in the round, a hat for DH. The pattern is Here. The pattern says to continue the K2P2 rib until you have 9.5 inches. I don’t want to fold the brim of the hat up, he wants more like a beanie. My question is, when should I start my decreases? From the pictures, it looks like there are about 2 inches of the brim folded up. So should I start my decreases between 7 and 7.5 inches? Any advice is more than welcome. Thanks!

Sounds good to me. ![]()
Also, if he already has a similar hat that he likes, you could measure it to confirm if that 7-7.5" works out.
I usually cast on about 80 sts and make hats about 6.5" before beginning the decreases, but heads vary in size so you may need to measure. The decrease section us about 3" on most of my hats.
I use my hand as my ruler. My hand is about 6" and is always handy. :teehee:
A sort of rule of thumb?
Jan always makes such handsome hats. ![]()
Heh. Rule of hand! :teehee:
