Do you want a pullover or cardigan, knit in the round or flat? Top down raglans are really much easier than you think and they fit well as you can try on as you go, with no seaming when you’re done. If you don’t want to knit in the round, you can make a cardigan so you knit flat.

My first sweater was #9724 from Knitting Pure and Simple. The patterns area easy to understand.

My very first sweater was the pattern called “A Tempting Turtleneck” from the book called “Yarn Girl’s Guide to Simple Knits”. All the sweaters in this book are very simple to knit.

I also bought a book called “The Learn to Knit a Sweater Book”. I’ve seen it at JoAnn Fabrics and other craft-y type stores. It has step-by-step instructions for knitting a couple different types of sweater patterns. VERY easy!!!

Good luck!

Hi there. I’m knitting my first sweater. It’s from the “Chicks with Sticks” book and it’s just a “simple shell.” They recommend doing a shell for your first garment and give detailed instructions (instead of your typical pattern). I figure once I’m done with the shell, I can move on to other sweater vests. I don’t have the patience to do a whole sweater. lol I found this pattern online: quick sweater vest and they say that it can be knit in seven hours! So I’m doing that one next.

Good luck.

Hi thanks for your replies so far,
I would like to do a flat pullover as I have only ever used regular needles
