Ok, let me start by saying I must be a tad bit unbalanced. As old as I am, I decided to buy myself a Build-a-bear. The clothes for it are so adorable but I thought “hey, I can knit for this thing!”
Yes, I’m a bit old to play with bears but… has anyone ever knit for a build-a-bear? Where would you find patterns for something like that?
I’ve never knitted a sweater before and I think this could be fun and also good practice for me before I tackle full-sized things
Pfft. You’re not unbalanced until you start carrying around pictures of your stuffed animals in your wallet and then showing said pictures to your co-workers.
Nor are you too old! I have penguins, though. Not too many bears.
You’re never too old to have a stuffed animal friend! :cheering: I have an ancient stuffed bear who goes with me whenever I travel…she’s always near me when I go to sleep (unless I’m going camping and she might get dirty).
I’ve never made anything for a Build-a-Bear, but I just finished making a sweater for my bear. Do you get clothes for your bear? You could start by measuring the bear’s clothes and trying to design a pattern from there based on human patterns you like. I measured my bear’s dress and made the whole back stockenette, and the front all Grecian Plait (off the free patterns section here).
The thing that threw me off the most is that my bear (and many other stuffed animals) has a bit of a permanent slouch. When I got to the top of the back, I had to reduce the back and knit more in the center, sort of like shaping a sweater sleeve.
Oh yeah…and I’d never knit a sweater before this either, so it was a really fun learning experience for me too. It looks a little floppy since I was also trying to learn continental knitting on it. Maybe I should’ve stuck to learning one thing at a time! :teehee:
I LOVE Build A Bear, we get one for our gd every Christmas…I so want the the Pink Poodle! I saw her last year when we were building Alyssa’s bear and thought she was cute, then I just saw her again yesterday when Lonnie and I were looking at the site trying to decided how we were building a bear this year, you know, which bear, which clothes. Well, I detoured to Pinky, she’s too cute!!!
