I’ve been thinking about different kinds of row counters and am just wondering if there IS such a thing like this out there:
A row counter that I can attach to my wrist with elastic. The “clicker” kind of row counter.
I have found that the kind that slides onto my knitting needles don’t stay on the right number very well. Or do I just have to “suck it up” and buy more than 1 clicker counter?!?!?
I like the idea of putting as many M&M’s on the table as there are rows and eating one each time you finish a row. It’s a problem with kids around, though.
This reminded me of a time when I was knitting in the car. I scrounged around and found some pennies that I laid on the dashboard to keep count of rows. Oh, the things we’ll do when necessity demands. I would have loved to have M&Ms instead. :teehee:
What’s worked well for me is to print out the pattern. I cross off the row number as I complete it. I make it a point not to quit for the night until I have totally finished a row and crossed it off. No stopping in the middle.
I write out the row numbers and put a mark after each one as I finish that row, draw a line through 4 for a group of 5 rows done and start counting again.
I have 2 free apps on my phone. “County” let’s me set how many row repeats is in a pattern (which would work great for a 20 row pattern that repeats over and over) it also tells you how many repeats you’ve finished or are on - you choose.
The other one, Tallybee, just counts. All you do is tap it. I use it when I’m just repeating one row and I want to know how many I’ve done for a specific length.:knitting:
Using a Running Yarn Marker
I use yarn similar to the way she does it in this video but I wrap it around a stitch. With my current project I need to keep count of rows in a 2 row repeat and I’m wrapping a stitch every 20th row. In other projects I use a different number or a particular row repeat, maybe the first, maybe another. It would be possible to use 2 strands of different colors to keep track of different rows.
What I do with patterns that repeat. I put the pattern on 3x5 note card and punch a hole in the top and put a binder ring through all the cards then you just flip the card when you move to the next row.
I got one like this at banggood.com for less than $1.62 including the shipping. It ships from China, but it the exact same one I paid $6 for at a US knitting site. It took about three weeks to get to me. I also got some other knitting items there and had good luck with all my orders.
Here’s the link to it. I ordered a few in case they quit working…
