Happy Hanukkah!

Blessings to you and your family, as you celebrate Hanukkah.

Happy Hannukah! (I know I’m late… please let me off easy, I’m Catholic!)

Chag sameach everybody!

Here is a suggestion for all of you who are fried-food phobic: make a nice potato kugel instead of latkes. It’s baked, not fried, so it has much less bad stuff in it while retaining all of the good taste of latkes! I know that fried foods are traditional, but the Hasmoneans did not understand the risks of heart disease back then.

On the other hand, anybody who washes, peels, and grates five pounds of potatoes has probably exercised enough to deserve a nice latke!

Please forgive me, but what are latkes? From the last post, I picture them as fried potato cakes. Is that right?

yes, latkes are kind of fried potato pancakes, yummy, but unhealthy:teehee:

But it is traditional to eat fried foods for Hanakuh, so I guess once a year it is OK!

Yep, nothing like traditional Jewish food, nothing for the diet in Yiddishe Mame recipe book :teehee:.

Happy Chanukkah, everyone!

I love being a Unitarian (was raised Jewish so there’s plenty of latkes and doughnuts in my blood!) at this time of year – we get to celebrate ALL the holidays!

Best,
Susan

Well-made latkes are very tastiful, as I remember from when I was little and learning about Hannukah in school. Unfortunately, although my college cafeteria is happy to serve them, they are poor-quality. Everything in the caf tastes the same, which I realized when I discovered that my stir-fry tasted the same as the noodle soup, the alfredo, and the tacos.
I want some tastiful latkes…

They sound yummy.
