and I’m lost…what state allows all “adult” marriages? I thought Hawai’i was the last one, and when I lived there…they were out-lawing that? …someday, i hope, this won’t be a question anymore. Everyone deserves happiness, is it not in our constitution?

I live in Massachusetts, the only state in the nation that allows gay marriage (and full, same-exact marriage–not a civil union separate-but equal thing).

However anti-equality groups (they, of course, call themselves “pro-family institutes”) have been lobbying to put an amendment to the constitution on the ballot that would define marriage as man-woman thus outlawing legal gay marriage. Blah blah boring legal stuff it has to have at least 50 votes in the senate two consecutive sessions to get on the ballot, and they just had the second vote–only 45 votes, thus killing the proposed ammendement! (For now I suppose…the lobbying has already begun again)

The 14th Ammendment makes all of the “Gay Marriage” laws unconstitutional actually.

We just got civil union in Oregon. It gives les/bi/gay folks same rights as hets but only in the state of Oregon:-(

There was a parade here 2 weekends ago. I am glad that our town is such that folks can celebrate. Some participants wrote to the paper saying they appreciated how nice the volunteers and the support of the police dept for traffic control and such. It was peaceful yet I am sad that one has to be so floored by the simple kindness that everyone deserves.
Everyone deserves to have the same happiness and right to be married as far as I’m concerned. Live and let live I always say:hug:

I hope the Pride parade in Jerusalem on the 21st of June will go as planned, without anybody stabbed by the orthodox like 2 years ago. These people are so narrow minded… They put a curse on the gay community and the youngest use the “purpose” to go around and burn garbage as “protest”. I think everyone deserve their happiness…

The Bible specifically forbids us (the book of Romans is a noticeable example, although there are others). While I’m not gonna shake a fist at anyone, I think that our country’s Declaration of Independence make this argument moot.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Backed by the 14th amendment as brendajos stated, and supported by the logic that gay marriage harms no one, it makes no sense that this is even an issue. We could all stand a little more love around us.

I am commend you for taking a stand. Yes, I completely agree with you also, we are to never hate the person, we are to hate the sin. I have family and friends who are very aware of my position and they know we still love them very much, even if we do not support their choice and have expressed to them our belief this is against what the Bible and the Lord instructs us. As Kelly pointed out please don’t lump us all together and assume we are all horrible persons because we choose to voice our disagreement with it.

I don’t have a pattern, but I’d love to see some to make gifts for a couple of friends :D.

My good sense tells me to stay out of this, but my strong opinions won’t let me. I want to say unequivocally that there are plenty of Christians who believe we are faithful to the teachings of the Bible who don’t interpret it the same way. The Bible also supports slavery, the oppression of women, forbids eating shell fish, etc., but we’ve managed to place those ideas in their historic context and move on. My own congregation has been fully inclusive of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people for over 20 years. We celebrate God’s wildly inclusive love for all God’s children. My church had a table at the Pride Festival yesterday, and we proudly marched with our banner in the Pride March as a group for many, many years. If we’re going to err, we choose to err on the side of love and acceptance. I looked around the sanctuary this morning during our worship service, and I was filled with joy that the congregation included people of different sexual orientations, races, ages, educational backgrounds, and economic condition. It makes me happy just to be part of the family in my church.

I don’t mean to criticize other’s interpretation of the Bible, I just want to mention that other faithful Christians read it a bit differently.

I’m going to assert my Mod power here and lock this thread. It’s waaay to sensitive an issue for a Knitting forum. Nobody likes to be called a sinner or bigot. The potential for hurt feelings is just too much.
