So, I have the hands of an overgrown five year old. I am not kiddng. I am watching Amy on the video for continental purl (CP), and she is using her middle finger to bring the yarn down. My hand is to small to stretch it like that, so I am using my thumb. Is this okay, or is the an eaiser way to accomplish the CP, with out pulling a finger muscle.
I have a different way for most of my purl stitches. (I find at the beginning of the row, I do use my middle finger to push the yarn down; it seems to be necessary with the looser stitches.)
I got this idea from Sally Melville’s The Purl Stitch in the Knitting Experience series.
I put the needle through the stitch to purl, then I sort of tip my left hand towards me till the yarn is over the needle. Then I catch at the yarn with the needle and pull it back through. It’s a lot like the knit stitch in continental – just on the other side of the fabric.
It takes a little practice, but it works well. I don’t know if my explanation makes sense, but try it a few times and see if you can work out a way that works for you.
I use my pointer finger…
Me, too. The middle one seems to get in the way. I just “crook” it down until I catch the loop with the needle.
I have to use my thumb lol… as long as your comfy and the stitch comes out looking right then you shouldn’t have any trouble :happydance:
