Hi all
I am now living in a senior facility, but I can get to Hobby Lobby. I want to make a sweater out of their “I Love This Yarn” - the lighter weight version.
I was surprised to find no patterns for it at the store. I was going to guess how much I’d need for my own self-designed sweater. (Just the stitch. One of the aides had on a sweater with a striking stitch pattern I will be duplicating).
Has anyone used this yarn for an adult sweater? If so, what size and how many skeins? The number of skeins of each color is rather limited at the store, so I want to be sure I have enough before starting.
I will take a size L which is rather generous now days, but I will be wearing it over turtlenecks etc. I can guess from a M or XL too. And 1 extra skein just in case.
My body has switched from being hot all the time to always cold now days.
There are over 6000 projects in ravelry but not many for an adult sweater, and not all of them say how many balls they used or the size made.
Will you be using a basic DK sweater pattern to add your modification to? I have done that a few times and it means i can calculate how many meters/yards of yarn needed for my size in the pattern yarn, then work it out for the yarn I’m substituting with.
Yes, Creations Good to see you again too.
And that is the yarn. I will look up how to estimate. It sure looks like DK would be a good assumption. Thanks!
I go to Ravelry and find something similar-ish and look at yardage for that pattern then divide the number of yards by how many is in a skein for how many skeins needed.
I’ve looked back over my past projects. I usually knit to a finished size of 42 -44 inches, and for a jumper / cardigan in DK weight yarn, I use a remarkably consistent amount - just under 1,200 metres!
Your proposed yarn looks on the heavier side of DK so you may need a tad more. Plus all my experience is with wool / natural fibres - I’m not sure if Russell make a difference.
Hope this helps!
