Hello, I am following a dainty daisy tutorial for a tote bag. The tote bag needs two kinds of granny squares, dainty daisies and solid coloured squares. I made the other squares so that it has 5 rows of double crochets after making the magic circle.
Is there a way I can make the daisy on the daisy granny square bigger? I made a few extra rows after the daisy to match it with the size of the other squares and I don’t like how small the flower looks.
I did a web search on “dainty daisy tutorial” and found this video tutorial
It appears quite different from the video that @salmonmac found. Perhaps one of them will be a different pattern option for you.
There are options to try. I will brain storm a few here.
You may be able to switch to a bulky or chunky yarn with a larger hook size for the daisy squares.
Perhaps you can make two round in the center and then two rounds of the petals before the final background square.
Or you may need to switch to a pattern designed for a larger daisy.
I am thinking of a alteration to the white petals of the pattern that may make them longer, yet thinner requiring more 4 petals (one more on each of the fore sides of the square) but that would also require a change in working the background color border to keep it square.
Another option might be to try increasing the stitche size from DCs to Treble crochets.
Chain ply or Navajo ply your yarn to up size it from worsted (3) to a bulky (4) size to use with a large hook.
I’ll stop now. lol. Before this post gets classified as a ‘major storm.’
Modifying (mod’ing) a pattern can be a “big ask” but it is a great learning opportunity for experimentation and getting into designing your own unique or custom patterns.
Good luck with your tote bag.
Come back and ask again if you need more help or have another question.
Hello
I literally know nothing about crocheting so thus may well be totally useless, but this pattern appears to me to have larger flowers. I could be totally wrong and they may be the same size, but no harm passing on a link just in case
